2. BRIEF DESCRIPTION
A Bottleneck Analysis is an approach used to identify parts of the processes that limit the overall throughput and improve the performance of that part of the process. It is commonly used as part of continuous improvement activities oriented towards ensuring the uninterrupted flow of knowledge, information or parts.
3. HOW TO USE THE BOTTLENECK ANALYSIS IN THE GEMBA WALK
When the Gemba team maps, observes and reflects on the process under review, it performs the bottleneck analysis by identifying the part of the process that limits the overall throughput and brainstorms possible solutions to increase it.
4. ROLES AND ACTIVITIES
Leader: Supports the team and facilitates the bottleneck analysis
Facilitator: Supports the leader with training and coaching
Team member: Performs the bottleneck analysis, identifies bottlenecks, proposes solutions
5. EXPECTED BENEFITS FOR THE GEMBA WALK
Increases process throughput
Supports continuous improvement activities
Enables the fast discovery of weak links in the process
6. ORGANIZATIONS THAT PERFORM BOTTLENECK ANALYSES
Airbus Defence and Space, Barry Callebaut and Interface
