2. BRIEF DESCRIPTION & HOW TO USE THE GEMBA WALK DAY IN THE GEMBA WALK
The Gemba Walk day is a dedicated event in which employees and teams showcase improvement initiatives, results and best practices as a result of their Gemba Walks. Employees responsible for successful improvement initiatives share their work, leadership reviews, all displayed/presented projects, and Gemba Walk facilitators share best practices among all the participants.
A Gemba Walk day also serves as a rewarding mechanism for all employees involved in Gemba Walks and improvement projects, and motivates them to continue improving in the future by showing respect and gratitude. During Gemba Walk days, leadership usually selects some winners (the best solo project, best team project, major process contribution and even global improvement contribution). The awards vary from monetary to more personal awards (such as a dinner with a CEO, a team-building weekend, etc.).
3. ROLES AND ACTIVITIES
Leader: Supports facilitators by providing resources, registers their teams and/or improvement projects to exhibition/presentation, attends the event and learns about various Gemba projects across the company
Facilitator: Organizes the Gemba Walk day (quarterly, yearly), collaborates with leadership and teams to set up the exhibitions/presentations, and manages the event on the day, shares Gemba Walk best practices, findings and benefits to further educate employees and communicate the Gemba initiative across the organization
Team member: Submits their improvement projects to the Gemba Walk day, attends the Gemba Walk day, presents improvement projects, networks and learns from others
