2. BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Skills Matrix is a collection of skills and competences observed in individuals within the team, department or organization, organized in a table or saved on internal platforms. The primary aim of the skills matrix is to help understand, develop, deploy and track people and their skills through time. A well-defined skills matrix should also help identify what skills a specific job role requires, or support the creation of a new job role based on the lack of skills in the organization.
3. HOW TO USE THE SKILLS MATRIX IN THE GEMBA WALK
To initiate a Gemba Walk, leaders can consult the Skills Matrix to make an informed decision and select individuals with the required skills to join the Gemba team. During the Gemba Walk, the team can use the Skills Matrix to identify subject matter experts to involve in a problem-solving activity, while, after the Gemba Walk, individuals with skills required for advanced improvement activities can also be easily identified (Six Sigma experts, Kaizen experts, etc.).
